Sensei

Passing knowledge

How do we share ideas
without sounding like a 'know it all'?

Some start with a simple question
during a simple conversation
by launching into a diatribe
of a lecture via their lone voice.

Some will offer up small snippets
of facts, without depth.

And some refrain from engaging
due to the possibility
of receiving a berating backlash.

Just a few times the nugget of
wanted advice is acknowledged,
accepted and returned.

Appreciation is often shown with the word Sensei.

The word literally translates to "one who was born before," implying respect for someone with more experience or knowledge.

Such as teacher, professional, authority or respected master of some skill.

I plan to use it once.
See what happens when that magic moment occurs
and I open up my mind to follow
someone else's understanding of the world
as they open up their mind to me.

them: <some great idea...>
me: Sensei!
<wait for that awkward moment to pass over>

So, I will also try,
to share ideas
and listen more
with care.

PS: I forgot, most people will not know what Sensei means, and now you will have to try to explain yourself...
